The Story of IT and the Red Feather
One evening in 1989 on a Troop 386 camping trip to New Hogan Reservoir, a few of the senior youth leadership went out on an evening reconnaissance mission. A cow pasture was close by the troop campsite and it wasn't long before the Scouts and the cows were face to face. Having heard great stories about the activity of cow tipping but never having tried it themselves, these young men decided to take advantage of the opportunity to experience cow tipping first hand. Slowly and carefully the three Scouts approached their bovine victim. It has never been divulged if the young men were successful at their attempt to tip that poor cow, however, the consequences of their action left three young men running for their life across a pasture with a more than agitated farm animal close behind. The Scouts made it to the fence, however, in the melee the cow lost its bell. After some time the cow got bored and moved on, allowing the boys to return to the scene of the crime and recover the traumatized cow's bell. This same bell, which sits before us, was named IT. IT's story was brought back to camp with the bell being the only proof of the occurrence.

IT has been given the title of Troop Mascot. IT travels with the troop on all outings including summer camp. IT has even completed the swimming test at camp and has earned multiple merit badges including IT's favorite, metal work.

New Scouts may pay homage to IT by placing a red feather before IT. Red is the color of our troop neckerchief, and hat. Red represents the unity of Troop 386.
